2026 European Defence Conferences and Events: Key Ways to Strengthen the West

Making the Most of Defence Events

Experienced conference attendees understand the importance of maximizing precious networking time at events and doing one’s homework well in advance to identify the best presentations and any side events. Attending a defense conference is an opportunity to compress months of networking, learning, and outreach into just a few days—if approached strategically. Long before the conference, identify the top-priority targets—people, companies, delegations, investors, military units, or procurement offices —and schedule meetings ahead of time when possible. This is what separates passive attendees from power networkers. Don’t rely on chance encounters; engineer your collisions by being intentional with your time and visible in the right rooms. Ensure sufficient supplies of business cards, brochures and personnel, consider alerting the media with a press release, bring cameras or wifi hubs or other needed equipment and be sure to have a good time.

And don’t neglect the informal spaces—hallways, coffee stands, receptions, and shuttle buses often yield the highest-value conversations of the entire week.

Another advantage most attendees overlook is the opportunity to capture content. Conferences provide a visually powerful environment—VIP speakers, advanced systems on display, dynamic booths, military technology demonstrations, panels, and working sessions—all of which can fuel weeks of online engagement after the event. Capture short videos, behind-the-scenes moments, exhibitor walkthroughs, and speaker takeaways. Tag organizations and partners, highlight emerging technologies, and share real-time insights from the floor. This not only expands your influence but also signals credibility and professionalism to your network.

If you represent a company or nonprofit, having a dedicated content plan can dramatically extend your reach beyond the few hundred people physically in the room.
