2026 European Defence Conferences and Events: Key Ways to Strengthen the West
December 03, 2025
By Carl Larson
For engaged citizens who care about the defense of democracies, attending defense events is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen the collective security of the democratic West. These conferences and forums offer a rare window into the technologies, strategies, and policy debates that shape national security. They provide direct access to military leaders, defense innovators, analysts, and policymakers—people who are normally separated from the public by layers of bureaucracy. By showing up, citizens gain a clearer understanding of the threats facing their countries, the capabilities being developed to counter them, and how they can get involved to make an impact.
Yet despite the importance of this public engagement, there are remarkably few resources that catalog European defense events in a coherent, accessible way. Information is scattered across dozens of government, NATO, industry, academic, and nonprofit websites—many of which update sporadically or publish dates late in the cycle. This creates a barrier for citizens, volunteers, advocates, and emerging defense-tech founders who want to meaningfully participate but lack a single, trustworthy place to track what’s happening across the continent. The fragmentation is even more striking given Europe’s rapidly evolving security environment and the growing public interest in supporting national and collective defense. This article is intended to serve as a resource for engaged citizens to get more involved in strengthening the defense of their, and all, democracies.

Defense Calendars
While hundreds of defense-related conferences, expos, hackathons, demo days, meetups and other events occur every year, there are few and hard-to-find authoritative lists of the various options. Here are a few options:
1) European Defense Tech Hub (EDTH) events calendar

EDTH runs defense hackathons and meetups worldwide, but especially in Europe, including Ukraine.
2) The Defender Media Global Calendar of Defence Tech Events
Europe-centric collection of conferences and hackathons. Includes most EDTH events.
They also have a Ukraine-specific calendar
3) Drone Industry Insights Upcoming Events Calendar
Making the Most of Defence Events
Experienced conference attendees understand the importance of maximizing precious networking time at events and doing one’s homework well in advance to identify the best presentations and any side events. Attending a defense conference is an opportunity to compress months of networking, learning, and outreach into just a few days—if approached strategically. Long before the conference, identify the top-priority targets—people, companies, delegations, investors, military units, or procurement offices —and schedule meetings ahead of time when possible. This is what separates passive attendees from power networkers. Don’t rely on chance encounters; engineer your collisions by being intentional with your time and visible in the right rooms. Ensure sufficient supplies of business cards, brochures and personnel, consider alerting the media with a press release, bring cameras or wifi hubs or other needed equipment and be sure to have a good time.
Once on the ground, lean into power networking. In the defense sector, credibility is built face-to-face, and conferences are one of the few places where government, industry, startups, and military operators gather under one roof.
Approach conversations with curiosity instead of a pitch—ask about their challenges, their operational gaps, their procurement cycles, or what keeps them up at night. People remember who listened to them, not who sold to them. Keep business cards or a scannable QR contact ready, and jot short notes after each interaction so you can follow up with precision. And don’t neglect the informal spaces—hallways, coffee stands, receptions, and shuttle buses often yield the highest-value conversations of the entire week.
Another advantage most attendees overlook is the opportunity to capture content. Conferences provide a visually powerful environment—VIP speakers, advanced systems on display, dynamic booths, military technology demonstrations, panels, and working sessions—all of which can fuel weeks of online engagement after the event. Capture short videos, behind-the-scenes moments, exhibitor walkthroughs, and speaker takeaways. Tag organizations and partners, highlight emerging technologies, and share real-time insights from the floor. This not only expands your influence but also signals credibility and professionalism to your network.
If you represent a company or nonprofit, having a dedicated content plan can dramatically extend your reach beyond the few hundred people physically in the room.
Finally, treat the conference as the beginning—not the end—of the relationship cycle. Follow up within 48 hours while conversations are still fresh. Send personalized messages referencing specific points you discussed. Convert verbal interest into scheduled calls, proposals, partnership drafts, or introductions. Many people leave conferences with a stack of business cards and no action; the ones who win are those who convert those cards into momentum, deals, and long-term partnerships. With preparation, deliberate networking, smart content capture, and disciplined follow-up, attendees can turn a defense conference from a busy week into a strategic force multiplier for their mission or organization.
