Programming Skills to Help Ukraine

Are you a developer, software engineer, or tech enthusiast looking to make a real-world impact? Use your programming skills to support Ukraine’s defense, resilience, and humanitarian efforts. Whether you’re a front-end wizard, back-end specialist, full-stack dev, or data science expert — your talent is needed.

Why Your Code Matters

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, technology has become one of the most vital tools in the defense and survival of the country. From secure communications to real-time mapping tools, from drone control systems to humanitarian logistics — software powers it all.

Ukrainian defense volunteers and non-profits are in constant need of technical support to:

  • Build tools for situational awareness
  • Improve logistics platforms for delivering aid
  • Automate workflows for open-source intelligence (OSINT)
  • Support drone software development
  • Develop cybersecurity solutions
  • Create internal dashboards for coordination and planning

What You Can Do

You don’t have to be on the front lines to make a difference. You can contribute remotely, part-time, and based on your skills and availability.

  • DevOps, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Embedded systems and drone tech
  • Cybersecurity and secure communications

Even if you’re not a pro, you can still help — many tasks involve testing, documentation, translation, or managing projects.

    I am a software engineer with more than 10 years of professional experience in software development and a strong interest in applying my skills to support Ukraine’s defense, resilience, and humanitarian efforts.

    My background includes full-stack software development, system design, automation, and cloud-based solutions. In addition, I have practical experience in drone automation gained through approximately one year of work with DOKS Innovation GmbH in Kassel, Germany, where I contributed to projects involving drone technologies and automation systems.

    I am particularly interested in supporting initiatives related to:

    • Drone software development and automation
    • Situational awareness and mapping tools
    • Logistics and coordination platforms
    • Backend and full-stack development
    • Infrastructure, automation, and DevOps-related tasks

    Throughout my career, I have worked on complex software systems, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, and delivered reliable solutions in production environments. I am comfortable learning new technologies quickly and contributing wherever my skills can provide the most value.

  4. I’ve spent over a decade developing a modelling solution designed to make infrastructures significantly more resilient to cascading failures caused by disruptions. My system uniquely and quantitatively models the indirect, systemic effects of cascading failures (economic losses from disaster-related service disruptions are 7.4x higher than direct infrastructure damage)—something that does not seem to be presently available in leading international agencies yet.
    For instance, a flood disabling a power node can indirectly cut water to hospitals and schools, causing widespread disruption well beyond the initial impact. My simulation engine captures these intricate interactions, using principles from economics, epidemiology, and network science—years ahead of the curve. This tool empowers proactive resilience planning in a few seconds: it helps prioritize resource allocation, identifies critical services and effective backups, strengthens food security, and protects the most vulnerable.
    If you’re interested, I’d be delighted to arrange a private demonstration of what I’ve delivered for the Canary Islands (with previous client approval for a non-recorded session considering that it involves critical infrastructures). This system named “RISK-Agua” —a digital simulator designed to model cascade failures across island water systems by integrating up to 35 different critical infrastructure services (such as water, energy, communication networks…etc) —was recently showcased at the COP30 conference. It served as a prime example of an innovative preparedness tool tailored for island communities that are particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change – but it can also be adapted for defense. It could be used for:
    • Infrastructure-aware defence strategies
    • Integration of resilience modelling in national security frameworks
    • Anticipation of economically efficient disruption scenarios

    The implications on defence are significant – we now leave at the dawn of drone warfare. Hostile actors have not really learned yet to strike critical infrastructures where it hurts the most. We need to plan for defence because launching individual drones at critical targets while taking into account cascading failures of critical infrastructure services could produce the most economically efficient weapons of wars ever conceived.
    I will be honest: my company is struggling – despite the strength of the work, this has been an extremely difficult year. Like many early-stage startups trying to bring genuinely new tools into institutional spaces, I have run into the full force of the gatekeeper problem: it is extraordinarily hard to get in front of the organizations that most need this capability when you are still small, unfamiliar, and outside established networks.
    That’s why I look forward to the possibility of connecting and, hopefully, collaborating to create meaningful impact together.
